Message you know it's a pretty convoluted mess. I just did not have the heart to reinstall the coolant line above a hot driver's side exhaust manifold. As I have it configured, I wanted to pick up positive pressure out of the block, which is directly fed from the water pump to feed the turbo.... and return coolant via the heater circuit back to the t'stat housing/ water pump. I would have prefered to tie into the "return" side of the heater core, but the stock piping doesn't make it as convenient....but what on the VG engine is.

I just liked the simplicity and effeciency of the shorter, more direct path. As you know when you drain the block, there is a considerable amount of gravity at work, which I'd like to think would maintain a safe temp margin even with the engine off, even w/o a turbo timer.

Thanks for weighing in. We all need a sanity check once in awhile.
